Re: jambox static (and airplay)

I was a little skeptical abought trying this for obvious reasons, but decided to take my chances anyway.

Stuck a skinny screwdriver in the aux port while the music was playing on my iphone and the Jambox was paired up. I wiggled it around a bit and after about 3 seconds and a couple pops from the speaker the music kicked on via bt cryatsl clear, no problem. Weird fix but it seemed to have worked perfectly. Its not very condusive to repeat this process every time I wanna pair but it DID work! I would rather still have this unit replaced anyway tho :smileysad:

Very buggy stuff Jawbone. Get it together baby :smileyhappy:

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

This is so annoying. I try every few weeks for the past year to get this thing to work and it never does.

It can play maybe one song over blutooth and then goes to static and nothing. The sound is horrible.

Someone explain to me how this has yet to be fixed??????

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

First, the support link in the EU page does not work (404).

Then, I can see that you are facing what seems to be a common problem (static noise instead of BT sound) when people get the device upgraded.

Wouldn't be fair to answer here instead of inviting people to call?

This would be very simple, you can write:

1) here are the istruction how to downgrade your now useless device

2) here is a fixed update that solve the issue

3) we don't know what to do but we hope to sell many more jawbone and being acquired soon

1,2 or 3?

Respectfully yours.

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

I'm having the same problem. I have two Jamboxes in my household, owned by different people of course. The first one was purchased in February of 2011, and it worked fine, up until today, when I plugged it into my laptop to recharge it and it immediately stopped working over bluetooth and via USB, after it automatically updated the software today. Then, unless I connect it with through the aux. jack, then it doesn't work.

Same with the second Jambox, purchased in October 2011. Only works through aux. and has never worked over bluetooth. It must be a software problem, as the first one worked just fine until the software was updated.

Is there a way to revert the software?

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

Yep. Same here. Except mine failed the day I bought it. It paired fine with my iPhone 4 and then after about 60 seconds of music, it stopped playing and there was nothing but static. Over the course of 3 days, I was able to get it to work via BT once for about an hour. Now, nothing but static again. I have spoken to 4 reps and nothing fixed it. They are sending a replacement but I have to pay around $10 to ship my useless unit back to them. That's not good business practice. I would suggest that anyone debating purchasing one of these should strongly consider these posts. This is not a fluke. This has happened to many people and based on what I'm seeing on this forum, this has been going on for at least a couple of years. I won't be purchasing anything from this company ever again. I find it hard to believe that they are not aware of the issue. It's all over the internet and certainly all over this forum. This is not an isolated incident.

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

YOU ARE PERFECTLY RIGHT.

I tried to insert a tiny screwdriver in the AUX port and foraged a little. For me, I was unable to let the sound comes out the speaker when I bring out the screwdriver (and let say it straight : it is not comfortable to listen music while pushing a screwdriver in a hole) but this is only a physical matter. The infamous STATIC problem is clearly identified now ! The AUX port plug is defective and has the priority on Bluetooth.

So, this is bad news for all that share the same problem : there is no easy fix. There is probably a defect in the plug or the sensor linked to the plug that lets the software thinks that it has a cable inserted.

I think that this is a shame that JAWBONE lets a lot of users in the dark, trying desesperately to get what they have paid for and waisting their time in useless reset or software upgrade operations.

However, if someone from JAWBONE is listening here, a software fix can avoid the mess of all people returning the unit for an exchange.

*************************

It should be a simple flag opted in in the web configuration software that will prevent the software to look first to the AUX output and gives the priority to BT, or perhaps a combination of +/-/O keys.

*************************

I sincerely hope that this will fixed because, if not, it will ruin the reputation of an otherwise excellent product.

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

I believe I have the same issue with a brandnew unit i bought from Futureshop. unreal. I will be taking it back. Too bad, because I love the design. But if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

I stick the aux cable in part way, static disapears. It's like magic.

A Perfect solution....

If only Jawbone had someone like you on the team...

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

Same problem for me.  Strange that Jambox won't post at least a few possible solutions, then recommend a call if those few solutions don't work.  Weird.

Re: jambox static (and airplay)

Ok I have a solution... Well kind of, I was to lazy to send my jambox back so being a electronics technician I decided I would take it apart and find out the actual cause of the problem and see if I can find a solution...

Here's what I found...

The 3.5mm input jack as we know doubles as a switch to over ride the Bluetooth music function of the jambox, from what I could see there is some contacts that depend entirely on the spring in the audio contacts to switch from input mode to Bluetooth, the contacts are very susceptible to dirt and corrosion as well as the spring in the contacts is not sufficient to press the metal to metal contact...

My fix is to short the contacts by soldering a bypass wire in place (give them constant contact), the problem this poses is that the 3.5mm jack is no longer working due to the jambox no knowing there is anything plugged in, I know this is not a great solution but now the Bluetooth is going to be reliable.

A real solution would be to install a micro switch in the bottom of the input socket rather then depending on the audio contacts alone but this is something that would need to be done by jawbone themselves, the other option is a software update resulting in the Bluetooth to over ride the 3.5mm.

This message probably wont help anyone but hopefully it lets u know more about the cause of the problem..
