Can I make quick button press activate dial apps instead of battery meter?

I get a battery meter icon on my phone, so the headset telling me how much battery time is left is really kind of useless to me.

Pressing the button for two seconds while driving is a pain in the butt.

Can I change the functionality of the button presses, so that a single press activate the voice dial, and the long press something else.

I can't believe that there is not an option to configure this.  Being able to quickly voice dial, or start/stop music is 10x more important that checking the battery level, even if you don't an app to check battery status.  Clearly a feature designed by someone who does not use the device on a daily basis.

Can we plean make this an option?
