Another interesting read!
Amazon does have the UC Ver2 for $125 ... so that is cheaper than the ICON HD + NERD combo.
Ahhh ... the form factor though ... my ICON and custom earpiece is wonderful. I wear glasses too ... so to have this thing loop over my ear is going to bump into my glasses all the time.
Curiousity may get the best of me though ...
So I took the plunge and went for the UC Ver2 - I've only played with it for a few minutes, but so far so good. I don't much care for the hugeness on my ear and I'll have to play with the ear pieces to see which one is best, but in terms of audio quality, it's as excellent as expected, and "true" HD in the sense that it's a rich, wideband audio when on VOIP calls that support it (Skype, Google Video chat etc.).
The PC just sees the USB dongle as a normal USB sound device (not Bluetooth device) so you can send any app's sound its way. I'm on Ubuntu Linux, so can't use the included software, but it all works just fine as it is and acts as a normal sound device.
Thanks for the update.
The NERD functions the same ... it appears as a sound device in the applications settings. You just configure it and ... it works.
I will add though that the batter life on the ICON HD is hit and miss. I have done battery tests and I get 4+ hours out of it. Sometimes though ... I barely get 2. Today ... it was deader than a door nail. I have never had this happen with my ICON.
Let me know if the form factor of the UC grows on you ...
