Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

[ Edited ]

Please add this feature. I have an icon. I like the new features of the era, but won't buy one until I know it supports play/pause functionality other than through voice command. Do you realize you are losing money cause you don't offer this feature? Is it not possible? Not only is it preventing me from giving you more of my hard earned cash, but if people ask me if I like my icon I say sure. However I would LOVE it if I could pause my music. They then seem surprised that that isn't built in. You are losing money by not updating A2DP to support play/pause. And think of all the happy, I mean very happy customers you'd have if you did make it possible.

It would be nice to at least hear from the company to know that they're working on this.  I bet a bunch of people would be happy as long as they knew they would get a software/firmware solution for their Icon/Era at some point.

Is this relatively difficult to add because AVRCP is a completely different Bluetooth profile?  If so, perhaps someone from Aliph could say so to demystify the situation.

P.S. I just bought an Era.  But thankfully I learned from this very forum topic that a Voyager Pro+ will let me play/pause audiobooks!  So it looks like I'll be returning it at the Apple store.  But I wouldn't return it if I at least new an update was coming...

P.P.S. The Era was practically the only bluetooth headset on display at my apple store.  Especially when buying it there I bet other iPhone users, like me, instinctively expected the button to work like the "clicker"' on their wired headsets.  I know I was awfully surprised.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

One of the major reasons I bought Jawbone ERA is to listen to podcasts and audio books.

Unfortunately, without the pause button it is unusable. Someone starts talking to you and you try to quickly pause the audio. Instead of tapping a button on the headset you need to find the iPhone in your pocket, unlock it and find the pause button. After pressing "next" button instead "pause" several times in a row, I gave up and ordered another headset.

I still hope Jawbone will fix this. There is a lot of useless, "cool" apps on MyTalk website, please add a "pause" app instead.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

First, let me agree with everything said earlier.

One solution I find myself using (very unsatisfactrily!) is to turn the ERA off with the tiny switch. The iphone automatically pauses when the bluetooth connection is lost. Turning the ERA back on, the bluetooth connection is automatically resumed.

You still need to press play to restart, and this "solution" requires taking the ERA off, but in a bind, it is faster than fumbling for your phone to pause a book.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

I would like to add my support to this notion.  We could easily lose the audible battery life feature (it's well diplayed on the iphone) and have play/pause functionality instead.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

I had to ditch my stylish but lacking Jawbone for a not so stylish but functional Plantronics Voyager Pro+. I would love to come back to Jawbone, but I absolutely require an easy and discreet way to pause/resume audio.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DPii I

I myself purchased a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ for the play / pause functionality. What I didn't realize is that the voyage lacks any form of caller announcement, even simply by number. So while I can pause a Podcast with ease, I have to take my phone out of my pocket to see who's calling me. It seems I need to try and find a nice headset that will fulfill all of my needs.

Re: Help! We need pause for A2DP

I thin it would be difficult to find a headset that doesn't have that feature - except for Jawbone products.

Can someone from Jawbone confirm that the Icon HD may have this?  Engadget thinks so:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/jawbone-announces-icon-hd-headset-with-improved-audio-nerd-ad/

They say:

"which lets you pause and play songs and podcasts by pressing a button on the headset."

The press release they quote says:

"For the first time, the headset lets you control your media playback with AVRCP play & pause, allowing you to listen to a podcast on your walk to work and pause it with the touch of a button when the barista is ready to take your morning coffee order."

It is here:

http://content.jawbone.com/static/www/pdf/press-releases/iconhd-press-release-083011.pdf

Looking at the specs, I don't see a button that would do this, just the talk button.  Also no mention of AVRCP support:

http://jawbone.com/headsets/iconhdnerd/specs

If it's true, I will order one today...

Edit:  with no mention of actual AVRCP, I would be curious to know if this will simply control any media player through standard AVRCP protocol, or rather if we would be tied down to some app in particular.  If it's the latter, that would still be a "no go".
