I was having the same problem, but used one of the Jawbone chat helpers who told me that in order to pair them for the first time, the jawbone first has to be in pairing mode for your iphone 4s to find it.
He had me start with the jambox off, then hold the power button up for 4 seconds to put it in pairing mode (light starts blinking red and white in that mode), and then I turned on my iphone 4s blue tooth, and it was able to locate the jambox. You only have to do the pairing mode the first time you connect them. Worked for me, so happy. Hope that helps!
