Jambox not pairing with Macbook

Have tried several times to pair Jambox with Macbook (OS X 10.5.8). It discovers the Jambox but will not pair. Just get message asking whether device is on, discoverable and within range, all of which it is! Please help. Bought the device as a Birthday present and I have one very disappointed partner  who stores all his music on his Macbookand Jambox doesn't work. We're an all Mac household so can't test with PC.  BTW paired fine with iPad1.

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

Hi anna_fran,

Thanks for sharing your experience on the Jawbone Forums. I think I have simple solution for you. When you get to the screen that says Select Device Type it would seem like the logical choice is Any Device but you actually need to choose Headset. The Jambox is of course not a headset but as far as your Mac is concerned it's the same thing. Choose Headset and then continue on from there and everything should pair up fine.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

I have the same challenge. My Jambox shows up in Bluetooth devices, but responds with the message, "device does not have the necessary services."

I have attempted the deletion of the "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist" file as so many have recommended, only to have the same "device does not..." message when attempting to connect.

I am running OSX 10.7.3, am current on all updates.

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

Reply to my own post.... hmmmm...

ok from the mac these steps will get you up and running:

  1. turn off bluetooth
  2. from Finder -> (Devices) Macintosh HD -> Library -> Preferences ->
  3. delete "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist"
  4. delete "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile"
  5. if you are not comfrtable with delete then rename the files to "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist_old" and "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile_old".
  6. empty trash basket (skip this step if you did the rename)
  7. restart the mac
  8. after restart sign on to the mac
  9. turn on Jawbone Jambox
  10. set the Jawbone Jambox to pairing mode, hold up on the power switch untill the Jambox says it is in pairing mode.
  11. From the mac turn on Bluetooth
  12. From the mac Select Set up bluetooth device (need to do this to set up serivices for the new Jambox, silly me)
  13. from the available devices window select Jawbone Jambox
  14. device will pair and you are up and running!

Good luck!

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

Same problem with my MacBook Pro, iMac and iPhone. I've done what you said and deleted and readded the device. Keeps failing. I love the sound of the speaker but I am extremely disappointed with the bluetooth feature.

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

One thing i noticed when i tried to pair with my MacBook, i had the jambox paired and connected with another device by accident.  I had to turn off the bluetooth for my other paired devices and then i got it to work with my macbook.  I am still not sure i understand how to do the simultaneous paired devices as that doesn't seem to work for me.

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

Thank you! Worked for me! I kept trying to go to "Browse Device...."  rather than going to "Set Up Bluetooth Device" and once its set up you still have to go up to the Bluetooth icon and in the drop down menu go down to "Jawbone" and select "Use as Audio Device"

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

I have a really old macbook (10.4.11) with the original Tiger OS, and the fix worked with a few tweaks. I had to also go into my System Preferences>Sound>Output and select the Jawbone as my audio output. Also, this above step doesn't apply to my computer either; the Jawbone does not appear in my drop down box.

Re: Jambox not pairing with Macbook

I have a problem that my macbook pro will not even discover my jambox.  I am running mountain lion.  It pairs very easily with my ipad.  I am running the most up to date software for the jambox. any thoughts?
