Multiple JAMBOXES

searched the forum but can't find an answer to this one.  can I run two or more JAMBOXES from the same audio source at the same time?  in other words, can I set them up as multiple speakers in different locations running the same itunes?

thanks!

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

Hi Domi and Velogirl,

Thanks for your posts.

The Jambox cannot be used in conjuntion with another Jambox to stream music, etc. I have passed your post information along to our MyTalk team to see if this is something they are/can work on going forward.

Thanks again for you post! Please private message me if you have any questions!

Best,

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

Hi Emma.

I am also really looking forward to this function.

When do you think we can see it happening?

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

[ Edited ]

I am exactly in the same situation. I already have 2 jamboxes. The second one was originally meant as a gift for my mother so that she can have some high quality portable music. But if there was a way to connect 2 jamboxes with bluetooth to the same source simultaneously i would definitely be forced to buy a third Jambox, as i'd keep the second one for myself hahaha...

From what i know you cannot connect 2 bluetooth devices to 1 single source simultaneously. But the Jambox is claimed to support multipoint, isn't this a kind of simultaneous connection? In this case one Jambox should act as a receiver and transmitter for the second Jambox, so that the second Jambox actually connects to the first one, while the first one passes through the signal from the bluetooth source to the second one.

I already did some tests with both Jamboxes and a wired connection. I used a Stereo/Mono Y-splitter cable and connected both Jamboxes, so one jambox was playing the left channel, the other one the right channel. The effect was awe-inspiring. Overall volume was noticeably higher and stereo-field was filling the whole room. If this was possible wirelessly through bluetooth as well, i think the Jambox would be  the best wireless (micro) stereo system available (though not quite cheap).

But connectiong both through wires is quite a hassle, as there are no suitable wires available. I had to tinker my own wire of various adaptors that i stuck together. There is also a problem, that with most common adaptors both Jamboxes will only play through one single driver not both.

One "easy" solution would be if Jawbone at least could offer an elegant wire, that splits a stereo-signal into 2 mono-signals, in such a way, that still both Jamboxes will play with both drivers. So the one Jambox receives only the left signal, while the other one plays the right one, but both still get their both drivers fed.

This is definitely not that elegant as if connecting both wirelessly, but it would be a simple workaround.

What about a special wire as accesory offer? Is this at least possible, please?

Thanks for listening, o.

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

Nokia just announced their 360° play portable speaker. you can wirelessly connect 2 of them together to get stereo sound. it is a bit bigger than the jambox and i have no idea about the sonic qualitites. but at least nokia did it right to allow 2 speakers to connect one to each other. a pity no one at aliph ever thought about this...

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

i think the fun starts if you can pair it with some friends' jambox.

for example my neighbour liked my jambox that much that he also ordered one. now when we have the next barbecue i could pair mine with his.

i can assure you that 2 jamboxes sound much better than one. i tried it with a wired connection and the sound level was impressive.

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

I think part of the problem is the source side. Bluetooth tech runs in different modes and most, if not all, of our source devices only run in a mode such that it can pair with one other device. Bluetooth devices can run in a broadcast mode. However, I haven't heard of anyone successfully modifying the bluetooth drivers to be placed in this broadcast mode. Also, there are probably legal reasons why we can't put our devices in broadcast mode.

Re: Multiple JAMBOXES

It would be a no brainer for many of us who already have a Jambox to buy a second one to have surround sound, is there any way to integrate a device with the Bluetooth like a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver?

You guys should definitely work something out to pair two Jamboxes!!
