Re: to Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

I agree with the dissenters here.  I don't think A2DP is a good feature at all. The jawbone is optimized for call quality, not music quality.   So even if you have two earphones, it's not going to give a good sound.  In fact I am willing to bet the sound would be worse than the stock earphones that come with iPods etc.  It's another thing that perhaps the target market of jawbones (and iPods for that matter) is probably not people who have high standards for music quality, but those who rate style and convenience over audio quality.  (Don't get me wrong - I bought my jawbone for the call quality and the fact that it had multipoint... well at least some semblance of multipoint if not true multipoint.  But I suspect a large chunk of jawbone customers buy it for the style factor).

There is no dearth of good earphones in the market.  And I believe there are some decent BT options as well.  I have the Dell BH200, whose call quality is pretty poor, but the music quality is decent (better than the jawbone can be).

Basically, I think there are better features for Aliph to be putting it's mind to.  (Like getting TRUE multipoint).

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

It's nice to know that feature requests are being taken into consideration by Jawbone.  A few have expressed confusion about the "how".  I would suggest Jawbone look at an option similar to the Plantronics Voyager 855 ( http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/mobile/bluetooth-headsets/voyager-855 ).  The ability to add on the second earbud when desired but to leave it off when not is wonderful.  This is my present bluetooth headset, and while the music quality is quite nice the phone function really leaves something to be desired.  Sadly the 855 has a mic that is both too quiet and picks up way too much background noise (a mild summer breeze, forget anyone being able to understand a word you're saying).

The moment someone offers a bluetooth headset that is similar in music function to the 855, but which takes my voice from the cheek or neck (ala Jawbone) or even from the ear canal instead of the open air, I'll be dropping the 855 for that device.  I would wager there are quite a few out there that are waiting for this as well (including the ability to have a choice when using a2dp of a single earbud or stereo (single for mono podcasts, stereo for music).

Thanks again for expressing the customer interest to developers.

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

I listen to audio books with my iPhone (playing on iTunes) and would really like to be able to listen through the jawbone.  I know that it wouldn't do stereo, that is not needed for books. In face, I really don't want to wear two ear pieces just to listen to a book.   I wish Jawbone could create an iPhone App that would hardset the Jawbone as the only speaker until it is turned back off by the App.  Seems like it could be possible?

Thanks,

Jody

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

Laurel:

In different places I read different information allegedly from Ailph regarding future firmware updates adopting A2DP.  Some reviewers say that Ailph reps are saying it will be added in a future update.  Then  in other places, Ailph reps say it won't be supported because no one wants to listen to stuff through only one ear.  Well, I for one would love that feature.  I listen to a lot of podcasts and talk radio through my iphone and I don't want 2 ear plugs.  One is all I want and all I need, so A2DP would be great.  I love the Icon, but if Ailph isn't going to support A2DP, I will most likely take it back and purchase a set that does support A2DP like the Jabra BT8040.  So, please, be frank with us and tell us what is the official position of Ailph?

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

Hey yukong!

Thanks for posting this great question and for standing up for the Jawbone users who do want to listen to audio sources with only one ear.  We largely base our product and policy modifications on customer feedback, which is why we consider this kind of information invaluable.  Since the technology with the ICON is so revolutionary only time will tell where the future apps and capabilities will go.  We'd of course love for you to hang in with us for the developments to come but we understand if a different headset better suits you.  You may also want to check if your phone transmits audio through the voice channel; if it does, you will most likely be able to play music through the Bluetooth connection using the Jawbone.

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

I have an iphone, and it doesn't allow music through the voice channel, so I need an A2DP capable headset.  I have a stereo bluetooth headset, that I use to listen to music, but I want the ability to use just the Jawbone for podcasts and audio books.  But, if you could, please clarify the conflicting information coming from different reps in various reviews.  As stated before, some have said in reviews that A2DP is going to be supported.  In others I read it won't.  So, which is correct.

Re: A2DP? Stereo Bluetooth Jawbone?

Hi yukong,

I'm sorry you've read conflicting information.  I'm afraid without knowing the specific reviews or articles you're referring to I cannot speak on the validity of them.  Please give us a call at 1-800-JAWBONE or send me a private message with your contact number; we're happy to discuss this matter with you at length.

Thanks!
